Research Tools
The Energy Science Center (ESC) maintains and provides access to several research products consisting of open research platforms and tools. By doing so, the ESC streamlines data retrieval or model development for researchers and students at ETH Zurich, allowing them to focus on investigating pressing energy questions. Hosting research products at the ESC directly supports high-profile and interdisciplinary research projects led by ESC Members.
Swiss Energyscope (ETH) Model
EnergyScope is an open-source, whole-energy system modelling framework that optimises the design and operation of national or regional energy systems. It captures the major energy sectors of electricity, heating, mobility, and industry while accounting for both technological and environmental constraints. Developed for strategic planning, it supports policy and investment decisions by providing cost-optimal energy system configurations.
CROSS+ Platform
Data repository for Swiss energy system data, supporting transparent and replicable Swiss energy research, to be accessible via a dedicated API. The repository is funded through the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.
Nexus-e Platform
Nexus-e Platform Nexus-e is an interconnected energy system modeling platform which aims to facilitate the energy transition in Switzerland. With a current focus on electricity, the Nexus-e platform will include more components of the energy system, including energy supply and use, for example, related to buildings, transportation, or environmental impacts.
