Seit Anfang Januar wird in einem Quartier in Walenstadt lokal erzeugter Solarstrom über eine Blockchain in der Nachbarschaft vermarktet. In den ersten zwei Februarwochen konnten die Produzenten 82 Prozent des Stroms innerhalb der Quartierstromgemeinschaft absetzen. Zu 25 Prozent versorgte sich das Quartier selbst. Apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainable Energy at Stanford University

The TomKat Center Postdoctoral Fellowships support outstanding recent Ph.D. graduates working on projects that explore new research directions in sustainable energy and its intersection with food, water, the environment, or human health. Awardees will receive a postdoctoral training under the mentorship of Stanford University faculty, and an annual salary. Applications due July 15, 2019. Awards will be made by October.

Also this year, the Energy Science Center came together at the SwissECS (Swiss Energy and Climate Summit). with over 800 decision makers of the energy sector. Joschka Fischer (Former German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chancellor) left the audience inspired and moved. ETH Week 2018 – Energy Matters

A very intensive and memorable week has ended for the 164 participants of the ETH Week and its organisers. Working in interdisciplinary groups of 8 to 9 students, the teams had to come up with their own problem statements and solution ideas that will contribute to a sustainable energy future. The Energy Science Center looks back to a succesful week and is very happy to have helped shape a large extent of the content of the programme on this years topic "Energy Matters".

Fehlende gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz für neue Höchstspannungsleitungen verzögert die Modernisierung des Stromnetzes. Zwei Projekte der Nationalen Forschungsprogramme "Energiewende" und "Steuerung des Energieverbrauchs" haben die optimale Auslegung von hybriden Freileitungen ermittelt, um die Kapazität des Übertragungsnetzes zu steigern und gleichzeitig Akzeptanz bei der Bevölkerung für diese neue Technologie zu finden.

Abhilfe schaffen könnte eine sogenannte Dreckstromabgabe: eine Steuer für Strom aus fossilen Energiequellen und Atomstrom. Prof Kees Christiaanse receives ARC17 Oeuvre Award

ESC member, Professor Kees Christiaanse receives ARC17 Oevre Award for his exceptional work, his unique vision of the city and way of working. The ARC17 Oeuvre Award is annually awarded by the editors of 'de Architect' to a person who makes a lasting and innovative contribution to the improvement of the built environment. The jury led by Patrick van der Klooster crowns a large and influential architect and urban planner.

Also in 2017 the Energy Science Center was part of the SwissECS (Swiss Energy and Climate Summit) a two-day event that ended yesterday with a big applause for Ban Ki-Moon (former Secretary-General of the United Nations) – one of the many inspiring speakers of the event. Über 180 Spezialisten des Energie- und IT-Sektors trafen sich am 25. September 2017 zum Nationalen Thementag Smart Energy in Sitten und disktutierten aktuelle Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze der Energiebranche. Das ESC war dabei und beteiligte sich u.a. am runden Tisch zur Energiestrategie: Vor allem, die Übermittlung von qualitativ hohen Daten würden in der Forschung im Energiebereich zu Fortschritten führen, da waren sich alle Teilnehmer einig.

During three weeks 24 students from around the world came together to learn about and develop low-carbon energy and development policy strategies. The E4D School on Energy was initiated by ETH Global in a collaboration with the Energy Science Center and the Energy Politics Group. Andrea Binkert, an ETH Zurich Master student and one of the participants of the three-week programme at the Engineering for Development (E4D) School on Energy, shared her experience in the ETH Ambassadors Blog.

Der Verwaltungsrat von Innosuisse hat die Mitglieder des Innovationsrats gewählt. Das neue Fachorgan setzt sich aus 20 Expertinnen und Experten aus Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft zusammen. Ab dem 1. Januar 2018 übernimmt Innosuisse als neue Förderagentur des Bundes für wissenschaftsbasierte Innovation die Funktion der heutigen Kommission für Technologie und Innovation KTI.
